An incredible, personal script from Paul Schrader. He wrote this while he was depressed, lonely, and it didn't look like there was a light at the end of the tunnel. An incredibly authentic representation of loneliness

The story of a lonely unredeeming psychopath, my personal favourite of the De Niro - Scorsese partnership, an absoloute must see for any film buff.

I first saw Taxi Driver at its premiere in 1976. It is by far the best social expose of the alienation of man in our society. 1970's New York is the perfect setting for such a powerful film. The best qualities of the character is that of "transformation" detaching from the crowds and daily routine. Finding a socially redeeming "Mission" and becoming a "Hero" in his effort to make one small sound contribution against the decadent and indifferent. Rotting society. A very telling story with deep symbolic politically incorrect "in your face statements" that would probably not pass the Hollywood censorship criteria of our day. A Classic for generations to come.

I can usually predict stories/ movies after a few pages or a short time. I thought this was going to be a tragedy at the end. And I don't really like tragedies. This guy is a great screenwriter, at least for this story. I've never seen the movie but now I have to. I can relate with Travis, being a VN vet myself. I'm pretty normal but I have a lot of friends who are/ were in the same mindframe as the protaganist. DeNiro as the perfect actor for the movie.

One of the best films I've ever seen. Robert DeNiro is a fantastic actor and so is Harvey Keitel. Even though Keitel played a scumbag, he played it well. Some people may have been disgusted by Travis' character but I honestly thought Travis had the right idea.

This movie made my life, born after 10 year of this movie realase, recently I watched this movie. I am working as a Assistant director for indian film industry this movie gave me excellent script for indian audience. Sencedirected by martin scorsesse is superb I am sure if any one say script like this to producer or director no one accept it, martin scorsesse is the director who can dare to direct such kind of challenging script and to make succesfull project.

Dark, brooding story- solid script. De Niro's portrayal of a severe adjustment disorder (and the classic ad libbed "You talkin' to me?!" sequence) has hit a perpetually resonant note with viewers for almost 4 decades. I have to strongly disagree with Joel about the "unredeeming psychopath," however, as there is clearly a development and catharsis for the hero. Schrader has noted that he is not "cured" at the close of the film, but like the protagonist of an Aristotelian comedy, he has finally begun to integrate himself in society, and has left a net positive effect on the world around him. The fact that the story closes on that note makes it indeed a tale of incomplete redemption (as all human redemptions are), and one of the major factors in the film's iconic status.
